NZ Blues and BBQ Festival 2022

Below, Highlights of the resounding successful “New Look” Blues Festival 2022.

After coming out of the 2020 – 2021 COVID pandemic the Bop Blues Club Inc committee decided to rebrand and upgrade the Rotorua Blues Festival with an exciting new concept. The Club connected with the dynamic Andrew Witters who was one of the originators of Rhythm and Vines Festival in Gisborne and the decision was made to go for it and try the new look of blending Blues with BBQs concept and connecting with Alia and Sean Branson from well-known Black label BBQ, in Feb 2022 the NZ Blues and BBQ Festival was born.

The NZ Blues and BBQ Festival 2022 was held the last weekend in November at the newly upgraded waterfront Rotorua Village Green showcasing top Blues performers and BBQ Competitors from all over New Zealand and Australia.

A great line up of performers were locked in for the three days of the festival. All the musicians loved the concept of music and food paired for a fantastic weekend in Rotorua. There were some amazing vendors lined up and the introduction of the BBQ food competition created a real interest to festival goers.

Headlining the Saturday night was the exciting and dynamic band from Australia – 19Twenty. They were amazing to watch and listen to, the feedback from the audience was they smashed it out of the park!

Also appearing over the festival, hailing from Australia are the well-known Wizard and Oz, local bands Rehaab, Lazy Fifty, Dirty Tones, Theory 89, Kerry Le Lieve, Midnight Salt, Collision, Nikau and the Natives, Kokomo and many more.

Sunday was all about celebrating Youth…with amazing beats from talented youth bands, and young children trying their hand at being a BBQ chef. Music, cook-offs, busking, bands, singing, it all happened at the Blues & BBQ Youth Festival, under the watchful eye and ears of the judges who were Nikau Grace and the Wizard and OZ
